Empty. Our living room is echoing. Kira is freaking out because everything that has her scent on it is GOING AWAY OMG. We’ve just spent almost all day at Ikea. Well, traveling to and from BOTH Ikea Woodbridge and College Park. But we have a couch! Well.. Actually as of this moment, we don’t have a couch. We donated the purple one this morning, and the new one will be here tomorrow morning. Happy New Year’s to us, eh?

But! New couch! We decided to go with the Kivik loveseat + chaise in Teno grey. It’s a great, tweedy fabric that kind of matches our walls. At any rate, it will be nice to have something that 1) isn’t purple and 2) is big enough for both of us.

Oh, and that chair up there? Yea. The Bertoia chairs, while fun to look at, were totally impractical, and we had NO room for them to just sit pretty. During my constant craigslist searching, I came upon this curb-side wonder. We ran out, looked for it, and voila! In our home! A little WD-40 and a quick wipe down and she’s basically new! A bit wobbly still, but much better than the uncomfortable Bertoias.

So with that, I bid you a Happy New Year. Since we’re couchless, we’ll be spending the evening watching Star Wars: IV and V in bed. Daring, I know. ;)

Happy New Year, all. See you next year: new year, new couch. New lots of stuff!

Hold your horses! Moving day has come! Kira has this covered from her perch, that is, until I shove her in her carrier and toss her in the moving truck. I joke, I joke — she just gets thrown in the back of the moving truck, no carrier. After all, someone has to watch the fragile boxes! ;)

With moving day comes lack of connectivity. What will I do!? Oh right, I have 15 boxes to unpack, walls to paint, things to organize and furniture to rearrange 20 times in 6 hours. Anyway, Just a Little Bit will be experiencing a bit of a hiatus for the next week or so, and I promise, once I get set up at the new place, I’m going to go back to actually posting more than once a week.

A question for all of you out there — what challenges do you face with moving? Organizing? Those mystery boxes at the end? Perhaps all of the things you have to juggle? Me for example, I have yet to confirm my rental truck and I move on Saturday. Eeep! So, what’s on your moving-mind?

See you in September!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything of substance. Almost a week. I do apologize for that. Work has been super hectic, and well, I’m moving at the end of the month — so things are super hectic at home. Packing has been more of a chore than anything — one that I am avoiding. When the boyfriend moved 2 months ago, I was on him about making sure things were packed well in advance, so that we weren’t up until 11pm the night before his move packing things. Let’s just say, we were still packing when he had to go pick up the truck the next morning…

Anyway, my apartment is an utter mess, smells like paint still from painting my green walls ugly ‘Bone White’ last weekend (and we have more to do…) and I’m just frazzled. All I’ve had the energy to do is sit in front of the television and veg, and sleep, sleep, sleep! I am also tending wounds from a spaz-attack from Kira, leaving the palm of my right hand tore open and my chest with a deep wound. Ow!

Enough blabbing — I have a question for you all out there on the interwebs. Where is a good place to get a certificate in Interior Design? I am interested in pursuing it on the side to see if it’s a fit for me, but because I was screwed out of so much money at my last school for a dinky degree in Web Design, I am being careful with my funds. I am located in Northern Virginia, and am probably going to look at some of the local schools in the area — but do you know of any online programs that are creditable?

I’d love to hear what you think of this. I feel like I want to pursue something that I’m passionate about, and honestly, I was sort of pushed into web design by my advisor at my last school.. What are your thoughts?

Check back later this week/weekend, and I’ll have a post worth reading up here. ;)

After a yummy dinner off the grill last night, the boyfriend went home and I wound down for the evening. I put a few dishes away, got my bags ready for work the next day, made the bed and took my contacts out. I stretched out in my new queen-size pillow top bed, for the first time by myself since getting it last Thursday. Kira was putzing around somewhere; she had her nap at 7pm, so now that it was 10pm, she was roaming the apartment.

I passed out with mild success, tossing and turning due to being sore from playing Punch Out! for Wii all weekend. Great game, by the way. Awesome way to get a work out in without feeling like it. Anyway. I think I was entering my first few minutes of deep sleep around 11:45pm when I heard a flush! crash! bam! boom! scatter! I sat up, wondering what the cat had gotten into. Thinking she had just climbed onto the edge of the shower, fallen in and was having trouble getting out, I didn’t think much of it.

Until it continued. And it got more frenzied. I grabbed my glasses, turn on the light and noticed the bathroom door was shut. Shit, she was trapped in the bathroom. This wasn’t going to be good. I opened the bathroom door and she bolted out.

Hesitantly, I opened the door the rest of the way and turned on the light. Half of the stuff on the counter had been knocked off when she entangled herself in the cord of the iron I always leave out. Awesome. Wait, what is that brown stuff–oh no! There is poop all over the bathroom floor–great. I stepped in and felt the gritty texture of A LOT of litter all over my feet. Looking down, I saw the floor — along with the sink and the shower — was covered in cat litter.

Turns out the toilet had been refilling itself a lot the past week. So when it refilled, she was mid-poop and freaked out, causing the lovely wake-up call. After some tank investigation, I noticed the water level had dropped about 1/2″, so I refilled it and fixed the bobber. Why I didn’t do that until I had a litter and poop covered 5′ x 5′ bathroom, I couldn’t tell you. I suppose I just needed the real motivation to actually care enough to investigate. So at midnight last night, I not only cleaned up a ton of litter and poop, I also had to console a cat who now hates the toilet. Sucks for her, because in my 620 square foot apartment, she’s not getting her box moved anywhere else.
