I’d like to go with something graphic in the bedroom, I think, after finding out that my coveted blanket was over $800… These seem more in my range.

The West Elm Totem Duvet and Sham set is a wonderfully graphic set. Though it may be too much punch for our small, low-light bedroom.

I first saw the Room and Board Washable Wool blanket in Charcoal Stripe when the boyfriend and I went to visit the new Room and Board store in D.C. last week. It was just so soft and subtly graphic in person that I would put the money down for it, for sure.

As you can tell, I’m going toward a grey theme for blankets on the bed. Both are graphic, and I’d pair either with some crisp white linens and a brightly colored pillow or two.

After talking to the boyfriend about my “perfect bedroom,” I couldn’t convince him that the DwellStudio Draper Sheet set was right for us. He apparently wanted something warmer, and I think I’ve found it in this photo. This is the bedroom of Jeff Andrews, whom I found via Elle Decor. That should have stopped me right there. I should have said, “Laura, this room is featured on Elle Decor. Elle Decor is a “fru-fru” magazine and has expensive taste, much like Gwyneth Paltrow. You should really just close the tab and move along.”

But nooo, I had to keep looking, keep oogling. And what’s worse, I showed it to the boyfriend, and he LOVES the bedroom. Great. Now the pressure is on. Let’s break the room down, shall we?

Orange pillow. This makes the bed pop a bit, giving the room some bold color where it otherwise lacks. But it’s a basic orange pillow, no concern.

Wall color. Well, that’s easy. We just went to Lowe’s and picked out the color we are planning to use.

Curtains. Have some already that look just like those.

Tan, textured coverlet. Easy enough. Every place from Target to Pottery Barn carries something close enough to that.

Patterned rug. Not really a big fan of that part, actually. Let’s skip it.

Striped throw blanket on the bed. Yea, that gorgeous, multi-colored wool beauty just casually resting there with that book. Had I known what to expect with HER, boy I would have turned and run.

After looking and basically giving up on finding anything remotely similar in color to that blanket (which boasts wonderful oranges, blues, yellows and tans), I finally came across it. Feast your eyes:

I’m almost 100% sure that this is the blanket. Please, correct me if I’m wrong. Because the price of that puppy in the window?

$825.

Yep, you heard me right.

Eight-hundred and twenty-five smackaroos. Please, pick your jaw up off the floor, it’s unbecoming. Not to say I can’t blame you. A blanket like that would match any room, really. It has all the major color components in it. But the problem is… is it really worth that much money? Missoni, are you effing crazy?!

So the search is on the find something just like it. I don’t know if it’ll happen, but I’m keeping my eyes open, and may even start a Google Reader feed-search for terms that would match it. I’m that desperate for the darned thing.

Do you think it looks like the one in the photo? If not, and you’ve seen something that might match, PLEASE let me know!

Goodbye particle board — Hello real wood!

A couple weeks ago I met a guy named Doug who had a couple of storage units worth of mid-century modern furniture up in Bethesda for showing. If you search DC craigslist for mid-century, he comes up quite a bit (though now under a new alias). I’ve drooled over his stuff for awhile, and finally found a piece that I loved and could afford.

I was so drawn to it’s unusual nature — tapered legs, slatted drawers and awesome little pulls. It even has a little lip on top to keep all the stuff I store above from falling off.

Though it looks as though there are 6 little drawers, it’s actually one HUGE drawer that’s perfect for storing a ton of clothes. The handles are in great condition, brass with a black inlay that is perfectly graphic.

The legs are a nice little treat. From above they look like your typical mid-century modern tapered legs, but get down on the ground and you’ll notice the “W” detail that attaches the cross-beam to the body of the dresser, both for extra support and added style.

It was such a treat to drive up to Bethesda to check out Doug’s collection. And great news for him, he just opened a store on Georgia Ave called Modern Mobler! I’m hoping to go check it out this summer once the boyfriend and I get settled into our new place and start updating our furniture (with vintage pieces, no less). Doug’s site is still in the works, but bookmark it now and keep an eye out for new pieces! Good luck Doug, and thanks for a lovely find!

Atleast to me, it’s perfection. I didn’t know it was possible to find my perfect bedroom. It has a wall color I love, furniture I secretly (not anymore) hope will fit in our bedroom with a king size bed (not happenin’), and um, those sheets!! I have been craving those sheets for months. MONTHS, PEOPLE. I just can’t seem to convince the boyfriend that we HAVE to have them. HAVE TO. Dear boyfriend, if you are reading this, see? The yellow isn’t bad, I promise! (Back me up, dear commenters.)

This bedroom belongs to Angela Hardison, who is a graphic designer and co-owner of seesaw designs and is featured today on Design*Sponge. While I enjoy some other elements of her home, the bedroom is by far my favorite. If you would like to read the rest of the article, and see the rest of her home, you can do so by visiting Design*Sponge.

If you are curious about those FANTASTIC sheets (that just so happen to match the outside of our new townhouse) they are a product of DwellStudio and can be purchased here. Just, brace yourselves for the price. ;)

Do you like the space? The wall color too cold for you? Stripes not your style? Are mis-matched lamps your thing? I’d love to know what you think!

I know, I know. It’s been a few week’s since I’ve been around. I’m sure you’ve really missed me. ;) I went on vacation and ended up staying in some pretty uncomfortable beds. Me and hotel beds do not get along. Unless the hotel costs more than 150$ a night, the beds are just.. ick! They are either too hard or you get this creepy feeling that there are BUGS in the bed.

That thought, married with the thought that in a few weeks I’ll be sleeping in more since I’m getting laid off, means bedrooms are on my mind. Big time. And when I came across this bedroom from Amanda Kyser’s cottage in New York, I was gasping. It’s gorgeous. Calm, classic, modern, clean. Everything I want. Heck, I even showed it to the boyfriend and HE liked it! We never agree 100% on something!

The bedroom color is pretty darned close to what I have in my room now, and I love the combination with the yellow-brown — perfection!

What do you think? Not your style? That’s okay! What is your style then?

With my move coming up in less than a week, I have been thinking of what to do with my bedroom. Do I want a graphic and bold room? A serene and airy room? Or maybe a super simplistic, clean lined space? While I haven’t figured it out just yet, I decided to gather some inspirational photos to share with you and to perhaps help me along in my search for the perfect bedroom atmosphere.

Erik Johnson Photography

This bedroom is all about POP and WOW! While I personally wouldn’t want this much orange in my bedroom, or any space for that matter, this photo has a lot of things that I like. Moody and dark walls, bright windows, upholstered bed, seating, and graphic elements in the pillows, rug, print and even the lamp shade!

Decor Pad

This room has a lot of things I like. First? Wall color! I am in love with this shade of blue-grey that’s popping up in bedrooms everywhere! I also love the layered rugs on the floor, adding depth and texture. Not to mention the wall of curtains that totally add to the glam factor.

A Life's Design

This room has a lot of great features. The warm wood tones, the mix of traditional and modern. And oh, the patterns and colors — who am I kidding, they are awesome! I know that bold colors aren’t everyone’s forte and I probably would opt out of them in the bedroom, but this particular room just has be salivating every time I see it!

Desire to Inspire

Of course, I love the grandeur of this space. Those heavy yellow curtains, that patterned wallpaper, the upholstered headboard and the dark chocolate floors — it’s perfect! Mind you, there is also a ton of room in that bedroom — my poor little 10×11 bedroom will not accommodate such moodiness. But I must say, yellow and brown? Freaking perfect together. I’m on such a yellow kick.

I think that perhaps using elements of all of the rooms is my best bet. Something graphic, something moody, something airy and something bold. All of these elements will create a space all my own, that I hopefully will love.

So, is your bedroom a space that you love? What would you do to make it fantastic? Or at least spruce it up a bit?
