Getting ready to move into a place that has a little tree in the backyard/patio area means I’m looking at all sorts of fun things to put back there. While I’ll be waiting to purchase anything for the outdoor space until we move in this coming June, I saw this bird feeder last week on CB2 and had to share!

The shape is just fantastic. The color, to die for. I am a bit hesitant about having a bird feeder on the patio, because feeder = birds = poop. Haha. It would provide Kira with a lot of entertainment during the day while we are away at work, I imagine. She could watch it from the dining room where the patio door is, or from our bedroom which has a window overlooking the back “yard”.

I really want to go for something modern and clean and fun in the backyard, not your “Home-Depot” weekly-special patio set. Have you found any awesome modern patio furniture lately? I know that Apartment Therapy, Design Milk and SwissMiss seem to be teeming with new ideas in preparation for the warm months ahead!

I know that usually my weekly finds are items you can buy, but in the spirit of October, how about we spice it up a bit? This week’s find is none other than a partnering of glorious proportions.

That’s right, HGTV and World Market have joined together to bring us a fantastic chance to win a $10,000 — yes, TEN. THOUSAND. DOLLAR. — giftcard to World Market, plus a personal shopping experience and design consultation from an expert at HGTV!

How awesome is that! I absolutely love their stuff, and could totally use the transformation! I mean, who couldn’t use $10,000 to spruce up their space! All you have to do is head over to www.spooktacularsweepstakes.com for your chance to win big! And from what I read in the ‘Official Rules,’ you can increase your chances of winning by sending the invite to up to five friends! Make sure to go back everyday for another ticket in the hat!

Oh, and after you sign up, you get a 10% off coupon that is good until November 14th!

Good luck, and if you win, I’m sure you’ll give me a consolation prize, right? ;) Have a fantastic weekend!

So I moseyed on over to their site, and low and behold there is a plethora of Mid-Century goodies to be had! Chairs, sideboards, tables, lighting — you name it, they have it. They have super high-quality photos that show off the wonderful upholstery and their refinishing jobs look astounding. Some of the lines of those tables are drool worthy!

Another great thing is that they have a store, located up in Baltimore for you to view the goods. So if you are in the area, stop on by! I may find myself making a detour on the way to visit family one weekend!

I realize that Mid-Century Modern is not everyone’s choice of furnishings. I am starting to get into it, but as you can tell from my apartment photos, I’m a long way from home! What is your style? Did you take one of the quizzes I’ve posted about? I’d love to know if you are a fellow Mid-Centurion, or if your style runs elsewhere! None-the-less, there is always love here for all styles! Have a fantastic weekend!

A couple months ago, I happened upon Sproost.com and found out my style was Modern Elegance. Well, I’m sure a lot of you have already happened upon the “new hotness” (that pained me to say, I promise) over at HomeGoods. Oh yes, HomeGoods. Who doesn’t love their random mix of goodies, ranging from linens to tons of furniture, accessories and kitchen gadgets? If you haven’t been, and you have one in your area — GO. NOW. It’s fan-freaking-tastic.

So, that “new hotness”? Yea, that’s HomeGoods’ StyleScope. It’s similar to what Sproost did, but I got a completely different result! And this one comes with colors — which I had to disagree with..

This time around, I am apparently ‘Earthy Casual’ which seems about right. I guess that’s a good way to describe it. I love the outdoors, and bringing them in with natural elements. Driftwood, plants, earthy textures and tones.

HomeGoods says,

You’re interested in creating a welcoming home where people feel comfortable and happiness flourishes. You appreciate the warmth and individuality of natural materials and handcrafted things and are inspired by colors and forms from nature. You love mixing up different textures and are sensitive to the tactile qualities of objects. Your style is grounded and solid, not flighty or frilly. And you are never taken in by the trend of the moment.

You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. Your home can be happy and lively and the place all of your friends want to be.

The quiz goes on to tell you what your challenge might be. Mine was light, seeing as living in apartments around here usually aren’t wonderfully light filled.

So go check it out, and let me know — what’s your result? Is it accurate?

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I happened upon Daisy Jane fabrics on Etsy. (Side note: I’m seriously addicted to Etsy.. Not good.) The fabrics are fresh, bold and playful. There are great mixes of large, simple patterns and more ornate but still graphically simplistic patterns that really inspire me to create my own curtains!

With colors ranging from hot pinks and bold turquoises to modern yellows, greys and tans, Daisy Jane fabrics are the bees-knees as far as I’m concerned. Here are some of my favorites:

Charlotte: While it seems this may only be available as a swatch, contacting her may yeild better results. I love the different colors on this fabric, and the multitude of patterns mixing together. Using this as a throw pillow, maybe on your office chair, would be fantastic.

Lulu: I am in love with the simple palette and interesting pattern on this fabric. I could definitely see using this as a chair seat upholstery or even as part of a layered curtain set. Perhaps layering it with a bold orange or green or even blue curtain in the front and this behind it, showing through would really make a statement.

Boxwood Avalon: Last but not least is this gorgeous fabric. The leaf/branch motif with the thick lines and contrasting blue background is just amazing. This would definitely be good for an upholstery project, or even for curtains. They also have it in chartreuse and dove grey. Love it.

There are so many awesome things on Etsy, you could seriously spend every waking moment going through the site finding new and interesting things. What fun things have you found lately? Maybe I’ll feature them in an upcoming weekly find! :)
