Updates in the Living Room

We’re making some serious progress in the living room! Since the last update, we’ve gotten a new coffee table, a new bookshelf AND a new tv unit! That’s vintage! Woohoo! So, if you’ll indulge me… Here is our before:

Big couch, bigger table.

This space wasn’t horrible, at least not in this photo. But the table was way too big and the whole space felt a bit cramped! So we ended up getting the Smart Round Marble coffee table from CB2:

And it’s fitting quite nicely! Kira especially loves it, though normally she hangs out underneath of it.

But we had to show the table up and get something else. I’ve been watching craigslist every day waiting for the right moment to pounce and then BAM! There it was! I hustled to contact the seller, and after a few hours finally got in touch with him – but oh no! Someone else wanted it! I puppy-dog-eyed the boyfriend and we were on our way to swoop in and nab it. So I guess this is where I should say, if you are the other person that was interested in this:

New Old TV Unit

I’m sorry.

I wanted something with plenty of storage, modern lines and maybe something that made it a bit different. I think these will do the trick.

Sweet Knobs

I think the new coffee table and the new (old) tv unit will play nicely together..

Living Room

What do you think? We are absolutely in love with the storage it’s giving us. Plenty of room to hide away the DVD player, DVR and Wii; hold all of the DVDs we never watch and the Wii games we have. Plus, since the new coffee table doesn’t have a place for storing remotes, we have those drawers at the top to wrangle all those odds and ends. :)

I’m quite excited. :)

Laura your place looks amazing. I love it. It’s so bright and neat. I love that rug and TV cabinet. The new table is much better love it. I’m fixing my living room up also it’s stressing me out. I put up my new cream curtains last night and water from my new iron dripped on one of the panels and now it has water stains on it. I still have lots more to buy lamps, rung end table and something for storage since I only have 2 closets in my apartment one being a linen closet.

Aw thanks! :) I’m sorry to hear about the curtains – can you wash them? Hopefully! I remember having barely any storage space – dressers make great storage for almost anything, from clothes to media to craft supplies, even kitchen stuff! :)

You’re welcome. Yah I’m going to soak it in the bathtub overnight in salt water and see what happens. I paid $80 for each panel from JCPenny. I pray it works. I’ve live in my apt for 2 years now and I’m just furnishing it. I keep changing my mind on my accent color first it was green then rust now it’s blue.I didn’t no decor was so hard. Yikes :)lol

Looks great! Much airier with the new coffee table and light wood tv stand. I wonder though how do you change the channel on the tv or dvd if your units are hidden? I am thinking of replacing our tv stand with something like yours (come on Craigslist!) and trying to see how it functions. Also, how did you wrangle all the cords? And what keywords do you use for Craigslist? Your finds are always amazing, and I swear I’m on CL almost every day… haha!

    Thanks!

We don’t watch a ton of tv so we just open the cabinet when we want to use the DVR or Wii. There are two shelves and a bottom so we have a battery backup on the bottom with all the cords wrangled inside. Then we drilled a hole (gasp!) in the back for just one cord to come out to plug into the wall.

I have a feed set up for ‘midcentury modern’ that sends those listings to my Google reader and then I visit the website almost daily when I’m looking for something and try variations. So when we were looking for a new Tv stand I tried sideboard, credenza, dresser, entertainment, tv, drawers, etc. That way it broadens my results and I can consider reworking a piece for a new use. :) look into add ons for your browser too. Firefox and Chrome both have some decent ‘view images’ plug ins that allow you to not have to dive into each listing to see the photos and descriptions.

*breathe* hope that helps! :) maybe I should consider writing a post on this topic. ;)

Thanks, Laura. There’s also the website, CraigsEasy, if you haven’t heard of it. It basically allows you to do a search, then use the Easy button to display each posting with the image included. It’s amazing!
