Hm, That’s Gonna Be a Problem

We got our couch in about a month ago and let me tell you, it’s COMFORTABLE! With the chaise, it takes up a lot of room, but we’re so glad we decided to go this route instead of just a sofa. Problem is, well, the awesome Stockholm coffee table we got a couple months ago is a bit too long for the chaise add-on — and we were determined to get the chaise!

Big couch, bigger coffee table

From this view, it doesn’t look like it’s TOO bad, but that space between the chaise and the end of the table is only about 7 inches. That makes it really hard to get around the table to the chaise, and frankly, it makes the whole room feel cramped!

From a different angle:

Big couch, bigger table.

See? Way. Too. Big. So, despite just getting the table in September, it looks like it’s off to craigslist for a reduced price (sigh…) and in with something more for the space. Our choice? The Smart Round Marble table from CB2.

We had a few considerations, and despite this not having hidden storage like our current table does (you know, for all those pesky remotes), we wanted something that would be timeless, durable and of a decent size without being too bulky. Comments from owners have said that it’s very heavy Carrara-style marble with sleek chrome legs look great. It’s got a 4.9 out of 5 reviews (and based on the one or two that were 4, it wasn’t really anything that kept it from a 5) so it’s gotta be good.

We’ll see; delivery is scheduled for this coming Friday, so here’s hoping it meets – nay – exceeds our expectations.

Any stories out there of furniture you’ve bought only to have to replace something else due to style, color or size? I feel like we’re playing musical furniture around here!

Yeah!!! New sofa. I love it in your space. What color is this? I am pondering this sectional or the Karlstad. We just bought a new couch 2 years ago, but I kind of hate it! It was a cheapy one from Regency (only around $500) so I think maybe I can sell it on Craigslist. Anyways, what’s your opinion of the Kivik vs. the Karlstad?

    Hey Kiley –

This is the Teno Grey — I love it because it’s neutral, but textured so it will hopefully hide stains. Sadly, it also catches on Kira’s claws.. But only because she lays on the back of the couch all day. Any way.. Karlstad vs. Kivik.. I think Kivik is more comfortable. It has memory foam in the cushions and is great for just lounging around. But it also has a funky shape and on our chaise, the cushion is made 2 inches longer than the couch base which drives me nuts!

I haven’t sat on a Karlstad for a long period of time, but I do like the look of it. Especially if you do something with the pine legs in comes standard with. The Kivik seems a bit deeper and with our habits, that makes sense for us.

My suggestion is to plan to spend some time at Ikea just sitting. We sat on the Karlstad for almost an hour and the Kivik for about the same time on two separate occasions, and the Kivik ended up winning. (Especially since the mid-beam support for the Karlstad kinda hurts when you plop down on it..)

    Good luck!

Good grief! This cracks me up because the 2 coffee tables I am trying to decide on are the Stockholm at Ikea and the round Carrera at CB2! (Or an acrylic one with a really fun rug if the couch is overwhelming.) I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new sectional today (bought at Macy’s) and I have had a very hard time resisting the urge to buy a table and rug, but I know that I need to wait because the couch was the biggest investment and I need to work around it. Also, I will need an entertainment center that is simple and balances everything out. God, I hope our couch isn’t a beast!
