Landlord Approved!

Our landlord had to stop over yesterday for some mail that was sent to our address (her old home) and while I grabbed the mail, I let her inside — you know, so I wasn’t being rude! She got a good look at our living room (as well as our dark dining room wall, which I’m still figuring out what to do with..) and loved it!

View from dining room

She even told us that we don’t have to paint it back when we move out! Woohoo!

Of course, that means more work on our plates, because now I’ll be painting the stairwell this color and the 4th wall of the living room that really just facilitates a 1/2 bath door and a shoe cabinet — but less of that grungy white paint, the better! Our stairwell currently has various shades and sheens of white everywhere from the various patch jobs the last tenant did. What was she thinking!? Whatever! Now to figure out how to paint our 10 foot high stairwell…

Horrah for the landlord’s approval! :)

    Awesome! :-)

(And I totally hear you on having to paint high stairwells and walls–the ceiling in my apartment is probably 10+ feet high, which makes any attempt to paint the walls a daunting task–I can’t reach the top of the wall/ceiling even when standing on a chair!)

Yea, we’ll probably invest in an extension pole. And having a boyfriend that is 6’7″ makes it easier, for sure — but still requires an extension. We thought about a ladder, but we are both terribly unbalanced people, so it’s probably not a good idea!

    Best,
    Laura

Haha–yeah, I’ve been trying to decide which would be less of a bad idea for me, an extension pole or a ladder (I’m *insanely* afraid of heights–even just a few feet on a ladder freaks me out, but I’m also worried about my potential to get paint all over *everything* with an extension pole! :-P)

If you choose a color that is light enough, you won’t notice! :) I plan to use those horrid “edgers” — they have a place for a pole to screw into — and if the paint is light enough, you’re good to go! We’re crossing our fingers. :)

Why are the edgers horrid? I think they’re pretty handy. A little bit more difficult to handle with the extension, probably… but easier than getting up there with a brush!

I’ve always had issues with the paint leaking onto the edge that has the rollers, thus rolling paint onto my ceiling or the wall I don’t want painted.
