It's just the way my brain works. I read and find it faster by color, thou it may take my some time to get a system going. I have all my files separated by topic in different colors. Everything that has to do with money, including bills and bank statements, are yellow, for example. Now, if it's in the living room and it's not behind a door or in a drawer, then I'll put it in an appealing box the same color as the wall. I don't want to see everything I own at once!

This bookcase looks awesome, but to me it screams chaos. Place back alphabetically, please.

Yeah, color coordination, I think, works for aesthetics. But as far as function, the color of the books mixing together has a nice, random look.

I too don't get the books by color thing. I like the old fashioned library organization of books, by topics, by author etc...but yes it does look interesting, although I like the randomness of color you get with organizing by topics or author.

I think that if there are separate locations for books, then definitely, color coordination would work. Currently I live in a small 620sq ft apartment, so I have room for one bookcase. Color coordinating all my books on one case might make it difficult.

To each his own I suppose. :) Thanks for your thoughts!

I organise my books by colour. And yes, it does take longer to find things. But mostly it's fun! You see stuff you forgot you had, everything looks different next to each other. And I often remember what colour a book is better than I remember author or whatever the theme is I've made up for the book...

On the other hand, my cookbooks are in the kitchen, and my craft and other reference books in my craft room/study. So there is not really anything that I need to lay my hands on quickly in the colour-mix.
