Things I Want on Craigslist

This whole lack of job thing makes it hard to really buy anything on craigslist, even though the listings keep showing up, over and over again, taunting me with their gloriousness.

As I head off on a plane for some vacation (seriously, who needs vacation when they don’t have a job?), I’ll be thinking of these pieces dearly…

Have you found anything super-fabulous on the big C lately? Last thing I bought was this desk, and I still need to clean my apartment so I can show off the final product to you..

I would love to own that coffee table (the first one), but I’m sure their pieces are expensive! What do you think of their work? Do you think it’s gorgeous with it’s clean lines, or is it a little too sterile for you?

Yes, I’ve Finally Picked a Darn Desk

I’ve talked about desks for the last, oh.. SIX months. Maybe this would look good — what about that? — maybe this? I finally broke down and bought one off of Craigslist. It’s cost me $20 (plus supplies), a trip to the other side of our nation’s capital (totally about 2 hours, round trip), and one really rude, old woman trying to leave Trader Joe’s.

Before you say anything, look at those lines. She’s real wood, baby — from the 1950’s. One owner. Cigarette burns, water marks, smoke residue and marker swirls — but she is a beaut. I promise. Because right now, she’s sitting in the boyfriend’s garage with 3 hours of sanding, 2 coats of stain and the first coat of polyurethane behind her, and later this week, she will be debuting in my apartment, taking center stage. I have been staring at the gorgeous walnut that is under those 50 years of grime, and I gotta be honest ladies and gentlemen, I love her. And once you see the finished product, I hope you will too.

Inspiration: George Nelson Saucer Lamp

The boyfriend and I both have ceiling sockets for hanging lamps in our apartments. Luckily, I don’t need an extra light in my place, because my living room gets pretty decent sunlight, but his living room is kind of like a dungeon! Although it’s very cozy,  everyone could use a little bit of style up high, I think.

That’s when I suggested the George Nelson Saucer Lamp. Modernica, a leading seller in Mid-Century Modern furnishings, has them for prices ranging from about $269 for a small 7.5″ x 17.5″ all the way to $1,395.00 for an extra large one at 20″ x 48″. This morning, I wanted to share some inspirational images of this gorgeous lamp. Please, take in its simple form, clean lines and smooth color. I love it!

What do you think of this classic piece? I find that it could really fit in with any decor. Would you drop the money on this gorgeous piece of art?

Weekly Find: Janis Textiles’ Lavender Sachet

I can’t take credit for it, it was the lovelies over at DesignSponge* who found it. At any rate, I wanted to share these lovely sachets that have been block-printed and hand sewn.

Bird Sachet

I’m on an Anthropologie kick lately, and the design on this is so organic and wonderful. She even fills them with lavender the Boony Doon Farm in Santa Cruz, California. They are currently sold out until the 21st, but aren’t they cute?
